ASAP Taxis Full CCTV Policy

This CCTV policy sets out how ASAP Taxis uses and protects any video and/or audio recording that may occur in an ASAP Taxi when you use our service.

We at ASAP Taxis believe that CCTV systems have a legitimate role to play in helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all of our drivers and passengers. We do however recognise that this may raise concerns about the effect on individuals and their privacy. This CCTV Policy is intended to address any concerns you may have.
Images and/or audio recorded by surveillance systems are Personal Data which must be processed in accordance with data protection laws and standards set out by the ICO. ASAP Taxis is committed to complying with its legal obligations and ensuring that the legal rights of our drivers and passengers relating to their Personal Data are recognised and respected.

This policy is intended to assist ASAP Taxis in complying with our legal obligations when working with Personal Data.
In certain circumstances, misuse of data generated by CCTV systems would constitute a criminal offence.

This CCTV Policy also explains how to make a subject access request in respect of Personal Data recorded by our CCTV system.

What is recorded and why

We may collect the following information for the reasons stated below:

  • We believe that such use of CCTV is necessary for legitimate business purposes, including:
  • to prevent crime and protect our vehicles and assets from damage, disruption, vandalism and other crime;
  • for the personal safety of drivers, customers and other members of the public and to act as a deterrent against crime;
  • to support law enforcement bodies in the prevention, detection and prosecution of crime;
  • to assist in day-to-day management of the business, including ensuring the health and safety of staff and others; and
  • to assist in the effective resolution of disputes which arise in the course of our work.

This list is not exhaustive and other purposes may be or become relevant.

What we do with the images and/or audio that is recorded

Recorded encrypted data is only accessed when it becomes strictly necessary and is only viewable by an authorised council licensing officer or by the police.

  • All images are encrypted at the source of recording and specialised software is required to view any such images.
  • Audio is only recorded in the event of an emergency situation arising. The default setting is that audio is not recorded in taxis or private hire vehicles as set out in UK law.
  • The default audio setting can be overridden by means of an override switch and will only be used if deemed to be absolutely nessesary.
  • All images and/or audio is stored securely for approximately 30 days after which time all data is automatically overwritten.

Security of the images and audio

We are committed to ensuring that your information/data is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information that is collected. As stated above, all data is encrypted and only the data controller will have access to any images or audio.

Control over your personal recorded data

You may choose to have access to the data collected of you in the following ways:

  • You can make a subject access request.
  • To make a subject access request you will need to write to us at the following address: The Data Controller, ASAP Taxis, 33 Castle Street, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO32 6RD.
    You will need to include the date and time, location, taxi involved and some form of proof of identity.

In some instances other members of the public may have been recorded also and to this end the images will need to be blurred out of other people viewable in any such images. Sometimes this will not be possible, as in travelling with a group of friends. If this is the case we will also need the express permission of the other members of your party to release any such recorded data.

We do not and will not sell, distribute or lease your personal data to any third parties unless we are required by law to do so.

We may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes.
